Early in the history of Goodall Pools and Spas, vinyl liners were not even available as an option to pool builders or pool owners. At that time we, like everyone else, used concrete to build swimming pools. Unfortunately, with the unpredictable freeze/thaw cycles prevalent in this area, we found the concrete pools to be especially prone to shifting, cracking, and breakage. Concrete pools were also expensive and very time-consuming to install, they seemed to need re-painting and re-plastering often, and the rough surface was not at all comfortable for swimming and playing – too many cuts and scrapes! Thus, when vinyl liners first became available, we switched to this method of pool construction. They were faster, easier, and less expensive to build, it was much more comfortable to swim in this type of pool, and best of all they were engineered to be built on a concrete “footer” which ended all trouble with shifting and moving out of place.
In the early years, the vinyl liners were only available in very plain, standard shapes and sizes. This forced home-owners to choose a size or shape for their pool purely based on availability of the liner, and not on what might be most desired or best for their yard. Furthermore, the early liners were thick, heavy, very difficult to work with and very susceptible to cracking and tearing. To make the situation even worse, there were only a very few plain colors and patterns to choose from. Fortunately, new technology and development has brought the vinyl liner manufacturing process far forward from these frustrating early days!
Today’s generation of vinyl liners are truly “light-years” ahead of where they were only a few years ago. Thinner, stronger, more durable than ever, today’s liners also offer a multitude of beautiful colors and patterns from which to choose. And, they are able to snugly and superbly fit any size, shape, or design that we can come up with, and they are warrantied for thirty years!
